My name is Corey “Co-Man” Archie 26 yr old artist from Jackson Ms. I drive 18 wheelers and own a used car lot with my father. I Started rapping at the age of 16 in my older cousin “TheRealJt” in-home studio(2006). I was playing around and didn’t take it serious at the time. After I graduated “William B. Murrah” high school I attended The “University of Southern Miss”. At the age 19 I linked back up with “TheRealJt” to work on my 1st mixtape “Flyiest N da City Vol 1″(2008) which was inspired by my favorite artist at the time “Curren$y”. I released My 1st single “Shoppn Bagz” on MySpace and it accumulated 5,000 listens and a small buzz locally. I released “Flyiest N da City Vol 1” on DatPiff.com and passed out countless hard copies Spring of 2009. During the summer of 2009 I linked back up with my high school friend Darrin “Sir Flywalker” Givens to form our hip hop duo known as “Da A$tronautz”. We was often compared by blogs and critics to groups like “OutKast” and “the Clipse” because of our lyrical abilities. Over the course of the years 2009- 2014 we performed at countless clubs and shows, sharing the stage with Major artist such as “Big Krit” “Machine Gun Kelly” “Yelawolf” and “Ritz” and we released highly respected mixtapes “the Book of A$tronony” (2010) “NightMare on Squares St” (2010) “the 90s” (2011) “last of a flying breed” (2011) “Grand Theft Audio” (2012) “Grand Theft Audio 2″(2014). Our group disbanded in 2014 due to differences but we remain brothers and talk often. Our fans are waiting on a reunion and for us to release our long awaited album “Name Brandz”. Who knows we may give it to them later. For now I am focusing on my solo career. I have a new Project I’m working on entitled “No More Distractions” and it will be some of my best work to this day. I’ve created my own unique sound and I’m about to bring something new to the industry that it has never heard before.
What is your background? tell us where you grew up and some information about your upbringing/experiences as a youth:
I was born and raised in Jackson Ms, a small city where there’s not much to do. Raised in a two parent house hold with my older sister. We traveled a lot at a young age, seeing different states which showed me its a lot more to life. I knew early I wanted more out of life than Jackson could offer.
At what moment did you know that music was part of your life and what feelings did you have towards making an active impact with your music?
Music has been apart of my life the 1st time my mother turned the radio on and I heard west coast rapper Coolio “Dangerous Mindz”. From there I was hooked. I started soaking up as much music as possible. When I started performing doing shows I saw how the crowd reacted. Which open my eyes to the potential of the impact I could have if I make it to bigger platforms.
What artists inspired/influences you and if you could collaborate with any artist (alive or passed) who would it be and why?
Man, I listen to everything, My Cd collection is crazy. I look at it as my hip-hop library because I study music to help perfect my craft. But if I had to narrow it down to my top 5 artist that inspire me it would be 1. Nas 2. Biggie. 3. Jay-Z 4.Jadakiss 5.AZ. Yes, they are all east coast rappers, but I’m not bias I love West coast and downsouth has well. I think all music is great and I personally dont think it’s a such thing as “The Greatest Rapper” I think everybody brought there on element to the game to enhance it and help shape it to where it is today. If it was one artist I would work with dead or alive it would be 2Pac. That reason is because I feel he was ahead of his time and things he rapped about in the 90s is relevant to what’s going on to this day.
What do you think about the current state of hip hop/mainstream music?
I think it’s in a great place. It’s a lot of great artist that’s helping to push the culture forward and I’m ready to leave my legacy as well.
Currently, what projects do you have in the works that you are most excited about?
I have a project im working on releasing hopefully October 2016 entitled “No More Distractions” all original content with fresh production. Will be some of my best work I’ve put out.
What are your short term career goals within the next 6-10 months?
To gather as many industry contacts as possible, and network with the right people that can help me take my career to the next level. and invest in myself
What are your long term career goals within the next 2-5 years?
Building a solid Cult fan base of supporters. Releasing great music, selling albums digitally and Instores. Having sold out concerts in the U.S. and over seas. Selling merchandise and signing a distribution deal with a label that sees my vision.
If you had one song out of the catalog you have created to show a person what song would it be and why?
My songs are like Lays potato chips, you just can’t have one. Once you hear one you’ll have no choice but to want to see what else I have to offer. So this question is really hard for me to answer because they all mean so much to me, but if I had to choose it’ll be “Nice”. The reason why is because it speaks on the perception makes put on to empress a female. Without shiny material things most women will be acting shallow towards you. Not knowing most of the time that guy showing off all those things is usually broke or has a tarnished soul and is very self conscious.
To the person who had never heard of you what is it about your music and story that you would tell them to entice them to be a supporter?
That I’m not afraid to be myself. And that’s what my music is about, having fun and being true to who I am. I rap about life experiences or what I seen 2nd hand. Anything I can make a story out of I will put it in hip hop form and present it in my music. I also like to make catchy records that will have the whole world singing along. I want to bring the fun element back into hip hop
If your music could be described in five words what would those five words be?
Lyrical, Catchy, Funny, different, flavorful
What do you bring to the game that is unique and different?
My Delievery and tone of voice, how I switch my pitches from high to soft to low to raspy to smooth I feel has never been done before. I’m versatile, I can rap about any subject and turn anything said into a hook that’s catchy. And on top of all that I have BARZ for days.
To the aspiring artist who is considering a career as a musician what lessons or advice would you give them to inspire them or to uplift them in the journey?
Stay humble be patient but not stagnant! Invest in your self and do the research. Stay down till you come up and believe in yourself. Perfect your craft and learn the business
