What is your background? tell us where you grew up and some information about your upbringing/experiences as a youth:
My name is King Salomon and I was born in Brooklyn, NY but raised in Roselle, NJ. My parents were Haitian immigrants so I spent most of my upbringing in the hood of Brooklyn and Queens were most of my family was at the time. My mom did everything she could to make sure I didn’t end up living a criminal lifestyle so she would send me to catholic school in the suburbs and tried to put me in as many sports as possible to keep me busy. I guess you can say I got to see the best and worst this world has to offer. Through these experiences it gave me a different outlook on everything I’ve done and continue to do and I believe you can hear that in my music.
At what moment did you know that music was part of your life and what feelings did you have towards making an active impact with your music?
I always knew music was going to play a major part in my life. Even when I was young and had dreams playing a pro sport, I knew I also wanted to run some sort of music label or Entertainment Company. My two older sister used to write poetry and even attempt to rap so I would try and do whatever they did and suddenly my love for music just kept growing. The way the people have embraced my music is still unbelievable to me. When I starting rapping I will be the first to tell you I was not good at all. I took many nights, days, and lost money for me to get to the level I’m at now. I’m more excited every day to see where my road takes me.
What artists inspired/influences you and if you could collaborate with any artist (alive or passed) who would it be and why?
I have a large amount of influences but some of my top ones are Jay-z, Andre 3000, Nas, Eminem, Biggie, J.Cole, Pac, and Wale. If I got a chance to do a collaboration one day it definitely would be with Andre 3000. His ability to tell a story is one of the major reasons I even considered being an artist. Just being in the same room with him would be an honor.
What do you think about the current state of hip hop/mainstream music?
I honestly enjoy where Hip Hop is and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. I think the more Hip Hop evolves its sound, more people will begin to be drawn in and add to the large hip hop audience. My only complaint is artist need to really find there on lane. I am sick of seeing artist basically sound like each other with slightly different words.
Currently, what projects do you have in the works that you are most excited about?
My debut mixtape “Book of Salomon Chap.1” will be released before the years is up and I truly believe people will appreciate the hard work I put into it. I’m very proud and excited to show the world what I can do.
What are your short term career goals within the next 6-10 months?
My short term goals is to get my music out to the entire world. I believe once people hear my music everything will take care of itself.
What are your long term career goals within the next 2-5 years?
Within the next 5 years I want to be an establish artist that has changed the hip hop world as we know it.
If you had one song out of the catalogue you have created to show a person what song would it be and why?
If I had to choose a song it would be a record called “Way of Life” that features my homie CR. The record really just shows people who I am and where I’m from. Make sure y’all check it out when the mixtape drops!
To the person who had never heard of you what is it about your music and story that you would tell them to entice them to be a supporter?
I would tell them if they want to hear real music again, if they want to feel something when they hear music, and if they just want some real s**t again then they need to listen to my work.
If your music could be described in five words what would those five words be?
Powerful, Strong, Smart, Real, Different
What do you bring to the game that is unique and different?
I think my upbringing and my intelligence is what the game needs. I’ve been in the trap with drug dealers and been in offices with CEO’s and been able to adapt perfectly in both environments. I think my unique perspective would really change the music business.
To the aspiring artist who is considering a career as a musician what lessons or advice would you give them to inspire them or to uplift them in the journey?
Man if you want to be an artists you need a couple things. First, you need a team of people that believe in you because you can’t do this by yourself. Second, you need the drive confidence and will power to work every day to make sure you craft is perfected. Lastly, never and I mean never listen to anyone bringing negativity to you. You won’t get anywhere unless YOU believe you will. No one can change your destiny.
